Dr. Suhasini M. Kulkarni is an accomplished academician, researcher and built environment professional with more than 21 years of experience in teaching, research, academic leadership and institutional development. She currently serves as Associate Professor at the RICS School of Built Environment, Amity University Mumbai, contributing to programmes in Construction Project Management and Real Estate & Urban Infrastructure.

She holds a Ph.D. in Structural Engineering from Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology, Surat, an M.E. in Civil/Structural Engineering, and an M.Sc. in Construction Project Management from Heriot-Watt University, Dubai, completed with Distinction. Her expertise spans construction contracts, FIDIC conditions of contract, claims and dispute management, international practices in measurement and contracts, construction project finance, risk management, procurement and tendering, quality, health and safety management, sustainability and structural engineering.

  • Ph.D. (Structural Engineering) – Research on RC beam-column joints under seismic loading.

  • M.E. (Civil Engineering) – Specialized in the Integrated Force Method.

  • MSc (Construction Project Management) – Heriot-Watt University Dubai

  • Experience: Over 18 years of teaching, research, and academic leadership in Civil and Structural Engineering, with significant contributions in Construction Project Management.

  • Current Studies: Pursuing an MSc in Construction Project Management at Heriot-Watt University, Dubai, with a dissertation focused on developing a UAE-specific digital CO₂ estimation tool (BuildCarbonIQ) for embodied carbon and waste assessment.

  • Teaching & Leadership Roles:

    • Former Associate Professor and Head of Department (twice) at Parul University, Vadodara, India.

    • Served as NBA CoordinatorBoard of Studies Member, and Research Supervisor for PhD and Master’s students.

    • Supervised 3 PhDs (2 awarded, 1 submitted) and multiple Master’s theses.

  • Academic Services:

    • Extensive involvement in accreditation, curriculum design, and quality assurance.

    • Active organizer of national and international conferences, FDPs, and workshops.

Dr. Kulkarni’s research interests include seismic behaviour of reinforced concrete systems, viscoelastic dampers, sustainable construction, green buildings, carbon estimation and digital decision-support tools for the built environment. She also serves as a peer reviewer for reputed scholarly journals.

A key current initiative is BuildCarbonIQ, a digital carbon-estimation and decision-support concept for building projects. The initiative builds on her postgraduate research into region-specific carbon estimation and focuses on local emission factors, BOQ integration, practical decision support and improved adoption by project stakeholders.

Her teaching philosophy combines case-based learning, experiential activities, simulations, role plays, workshops, live industry problems and technology-enabled pedagogy. She has designed and delivered advanced learning experiences in FIDIC contracts, claims and change management, project finance, procurement, construction risk, safety and international measurement practices.

Dr. Kulkarni actively promotes industry-academia collaboration through expert sessions, curriculum enrichment, professional engagement and student mentoring. Her professional vision is to develop future-ready built environment leaders who can integrate technical, commercial, contractual, financial, digital and sustainability competencies with ethical and responsible project delivery.
