Dr. Shaleen Singhal

Dr Shaleen Singhal is a Professor at TERI School of Advanced Studies, a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy UK, and had been a Visiting Fulbright Professor at Yale University. He had been serving as Director of the Emerson Centre of Excellence for Sustainability Studies focusing on adopting the knowledge co-production approach for examining complex dimensions of sustainability. He had also served the Dean positions at TERI SAS from 2020-24. He had been the Lecturer in Sustainability Design at University of Ulster, UK.
With over 27 years of research, consulting, teaching, and academic administration experience in India and the UK, Dr. Singhal provides leadership to advance frontiers of sustainability research and education through partnerships. Prof. Singhal is a member of the Technical Advisory Committee of the Department of Science & Technology, Government of Gujarat, and a member of the Global Urban Competitiveness Project Council, US. He led establishment of the Emerson Centre at TERI SAS and had also worked with The Nature Conservancy (TNC) and Tata Trusts towards establishment of a think tank focusing on applied sustainability solutions. Prof. Singhal has led research grants and consulting assignments for multi-disciplinary research on thematics such as energy and climate change, public policy and planning, sustainable smart cities, sustainable consumption and production, eco-system based solutions, and Science-Policy-Practice interface. Some of his recent research and consulting assignments have been funded by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, the Ministry of Jal Shakti, The World Bank, TNC US, UNEP, UNESCAP, and TNC India. His PhD from Ulster of University, UK received the Global Emerald/EFMD Outstanding Doctoral Research Award 2009; and the Best Thesis in Built Environment, University of Ulster, Faculty Award 2009. The inter-disciplinary research by Professor Singhal and his PhD scholars, examines the challenges and develops policy recommendations and solutions for sustainability. Prof. Singhal contributes as an external PhD examiner, doctoral committee member, advisory panel and guest faculty at leading universities focused on infrastructure, built environment and climate change and as the reviewer of leading international journals.
