Prof. Dr. Sanjay Govind Patil is a result oriented professional with 16 years of rich & extensive experience in academic administration, curriculum development, strategic planning, teaching & learning strategies, research & development with an added 2 years industry experience in project planning & management, resource deployment & site administration.
He received his PhD in Civil Engineering from National Institute of Technology, Surathkal, Karnataka, India in 2012. His research interest involves Concrete Technology, Solid Waste Management, Construction Materials, Coastal Engineering and application of Artificial Intelligence to solve complex civil engineering problems. He has published a number of papers in these areas in reputed international journals and conferences. He is currently working on developing innovative construction materials from industrial waste.
Presently he is associated with Department of Built and Natural Environment, Caledonian College of Engineering, a University College in Oman, affiliated to Glasgow Caledonian University, Scotland, U.K. During his tenure with Caledonian college, he has held various academic leadership positions, such as head of department, chaired department boards, chaired a core implementation group to launch new BEng programs, team leader of the various committees are a few to mention. Apart from this he was also an academic council and a research committee member. He is thoroughly acquainted with Scottish and Omani educational system and frameworks and developed and implemented undergraduate programs in the department meeting the required standards. He was also instrumental in getting programs accredited by the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) which is the world's largest and most influential professional body for construction management and leadership. Apart from this he has developed and delivered a number of customised short term courses in the area of civil engineering for the private and public sectors generating additional revenue for the institute.
He has successfully mentored and completed consultancy and funded projects in the area of industrial waste management and environmental sustainability. In 2016 a research project mentored by him was conferred with ‘Best Research Award’ in the area of Biological and Environmental resources in the entire country of Oman at the Annual Research Forum organized by ‘The Research Council’ of Oman. He is also the recipient of the inaugural ‘Best Teacher Award’ for the academic year 2013-14 at Caledonian College of Engineering for the recognition of the inspirational teaching and mentoring role in developing students and graduates of the college in order to prepare them well for professional life.
Prior joining to Caledonian College of Engineering he was associated with the Rayeshwar Institute of Engineering and Information Technology at Goa, India (2001-2008). Since its inception in 2001 he was actively involved in developing new laboratories, implementation and maintenance of policies, short and long-term planning of the college. He also worked as the In-charge principal for the period of one year (2004-2005) and was involved in submitting compliance reports meeting the AICTE and UGC requirements. He also initiated state level working model contest first of its kind in the state of Goa and MoU with National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) for research and student projects.
He participated and presented technical papers in various countries like UK, Singapore, Switzerland, France and Italy. The purpose of these visits was to meet the peers and counterparts and build up a relationship and also to explore research potential and collaborative projects. Apart from this he is involved in various scholarly activities, such as reviewer for the international journals of high repute published by Elsevier and American Concrete Institute (ACI), delivering talks and lectures at various forums organized by the professional bodies, panel member for various curricular activities.
He has guided more than 27 dissertations at undergraduate level in the area of Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering and Quantity Surveying. He is also a panel member of the Doctoral Thesis Assessment Committee in the department of Applied Mechanics, National Institute of Technology, Surathkal, Karnataka India. He is an Associate Member- American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and Individual Member- American Concrete Institute (ACI).
