Guest lecture
Dr. Sudhir Krishna, Former Secretary, Ministry of Urban Development, GOI visited the School to deliver a talk on 'The road-map for planned urbanization in India'.

Dr. Krishna has been a member of the Indian Administrative Service since 1977 till he retired recently on 30 June 2014 as Secretary, Ministry of Urban Development, in-charge of urban planning, urban renewal, local governance and urban transport. 

During the session, Dr. Krishna advocated the concept that the growth story of India is yet to be written on the canvas of planned urbanization. With over 37 years of expertise and subject knowledge, Dr. Krishna has been the key driver of Transit Oriented Development (TOD) concepts getting grounded in various cities. His concepts have helped in waking numerous mass transit projects such as metro rail and BRTS projects in major cities like Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad and Kochi – being the latest. 

The session focused on the next steps to be taken to develop smart cities in India and monetize the city’s plans with an objective to generate wealth and employment in the country.

Dr. Krishna has been actively involved in formulating planning and design guidelines for urban development along with planning educational framework.
