RICS School of Built Environment, RICS SBE, Amity University in association with Building Materials and Technology Promotion Council, under the aegis of Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India is organizing a one-day seminar on “Emerging Technologies for Affordable Housing: Opportunities and Challenges”, to be held on 17th December 2018 at Amity University, Noida, Uttar Pradesh.

We are uniquely positioned at Amity University, India’s Leading Research & Innovation Driven Private University in Noida. Amity sets the benchmarks of the global education with a system that matches the best of practices, theories, resources and standards all over the world.

In order to bridge the gap between research and development and large scale application of new building material technologies, the erstwhile Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India, had established the BMTPC in July 1990. BMTPC strives to package proven innovative technologies for the benefit of entrepreneurs interested in setting up manufacturing units in tiny, small, medium and large scale sectors.

RICS is one of the world’s leading (non-profit) professional body for qualifications and standards in land, property, construction and other issues associated with built-environment. We work with government bodies and key sector investors with a view to balance the public interest with the commercial pressure of development. In last couple of years, RICS SBE has worked alongside BMTPC on many projects under the theme of emerging housing technologies and knowledge dissemination. These projects were primarily focused on two aspects, evaluation of emerging housing technologies and development of a knowledge-base of these technologies.

The Pradan Mantri Awas Yojna-Housing for All (Urban) (PMAY-HFA (Urban)) Mission has highlighted a massive housing deficit, and the problem of affordability which cannot be tackled through conventional technology utilized in the construction industry. Emerging technologies that are superior to the traditional approach must be mainstreamed in the industry to construct such large volume of housing. Emerging technologies will play a vital role in effective implementation of PMAY. Hence, there is a need to understand the crucial barriers and opportunities associated with the adoption. Understanding this need, RICS alongwith BMTPC is organizing the seminar on Emerging Technologies for Affordable Housing: Opportunities and Challenges providing a platform for government institutions, technology providers and academicians to share their knowledge and experience on the said subject.

The objective of this seminar is to disseminate the information related to emerging technologies in the area of affordable housing to all the stakeholders involved. Emerging technologies have an edge over conventional systems in the aspects of time, cost, quality of the finished product, and sustainability. This seminar would possibly bring out the challenges associated with the adoption of emerging technologies along with the available opportunities for adoption.
