Bharath Balasubramanya shares his journey during MBA in Real Estate.

Bharath, working as an Associate at CBRE, was an achiever from the start. He continuously excelled at everything he did and emerged as one of the toppers in Karnataka during high school. He later received an opportunity of participating in Central Program for Youth on Leadership in Science by CSIR, Government of India. Bharath also started participating in debating from an early age and won many laurels. Passionate about teaching, Bharath has also worked as a part-time teacher for a while teaching young students mathematics and physics.

Later, Bharath pursued Bachelor of Engineering with major in Civil Engineering and completed his graduation with 9.4 CGPA. Afterwards, he joined WS Atkins as an assistant engineer under the Clean Water Networks division where he was responsible for designing hydraulic models for areas in the UK. Bharath never let his job be a barrier in his studies. On the side, Bharath started pursuing PG Diploma in Infrastructure and Construction Management from Maharashtra Institute of Technology, Pune.

In 2016, Bharath started pursuing MBA in Real Estate Urban Infrastructure from RICS SBE where he topped his batch with 8.8 CGPA. During his MBA, he participated in REACh program where he went on study tour of major cities of Asia i.e. Hong Kong, Singapore, Beijing, Shanghai, Seoul and Tokyo from the perspective of Real Estate and Construction over a period of 4 weeks. It also included studying the commercial real estate scenario in the three major Indian cities i.e. Delhi, Mumbai & Bangalore.

Bharath was also a regular participant in extra-curricular activities. During his graduation, he won as much as 22 competitions varying from technical paper presentations, debates and group discussions. At RICS SBE, Bharath was the Vice President of debating society. In Jan 2017, he secured first place in the group discussion at National Entrepreneurship Challenge organized by IIT Bombay. He was also a consecutive winner of Dhwani, debating competition on Renewable Energy by TERI, Delhi for 2016 & 2017. On the other hand, Bharath is also fond of travelling and creating vlogs. He has travelled to Europe, Asia & many other domestic places and wishes to travel to Australia next.

Bharath’s current work includes market analysis, feasibility analysis etc. He is also a Chartered Member of Institution of Engineers, India. On the side, he is also pursuing PG Diploma in Urban Planning from IGNOU. On being asked how he manages his study and work, he said that academics & career go hand in hand and he only takes up the courses which help him push into his career. When asked about his further plans, he went on to mention that he is working towards gaining chartered qualifications MRICS and CFA in the next few years.

On being asked what he would like to say to future aspirants, “As India looks towards taking a huge leap in the built environment sector, professionals are in huge demand; RICS is definitely a platform to becoming one!”
