Rumi Mary Siga Civil Engineer MBA CPM 2014-16 Placed at Mahindra Lifespaces A young girl who knows her mind and who was willing to go abroad just to pursue an RICS accredited course. She has done her B.Tech in Civil Engineering and followed this up with an MBA in Construction Project Management (CPM). Here she shares with us her thoughts about her studies and career so far. My aspirations I was very inspired by my father who is a civil engineer and works in a private firm. So I did a B.Tech in civil engineering, but I realized that I wanted to rise high up on the corporate ladder and decided to study further for it. My dream is to eventually set up my own firm, maybe in the supply chain as there is a lot of problem in procurement of resources in Arunachal Pradesh. On joining RICS SBE I knew the value of RICS accredited courses even before I came to know about RICS SBE. I was even ready to go abroad in my pursuit of an RICS accredited course in CPM. Then I came to know about RICS SBE at Amity University. I cross checked and found out that it’s the same RICS that I was looking for. Without wasting any further time I enrolled for admissions in MBA CPM. On learning at RICS SBE What I learnt in civil engg is not even 10% of the quantum of knowledge that I got here. I gained tremendous knowledge that can be applied at work and also practical exposure; be it site visits or case studies. I feel I made the right choice by choosing RICS SBE. On placement and career I interned with Mahindra Lifespaces and later during placements, I was fortunate to get placed with them again in the job role of site execution. Since I have no work experience in this field, I will take this opportunity to learn and explore as much as possible for the next five years. I opted for site execution because that is what interests me. On women in male dominated spaces Since I was a child, I have perceived girls to be as strong and hard working as boys. In the state to which I belong, there is no gender inequality. It is only a psychological barrier that real estate and construction are for men. I do not believe that we as women have to fight for our space. There is work and if you are capable of doing it, then nobody can stop you from doing it and rising in your chosen field. Also, women are far more professional and organized at work and are valued for that. I am greatly inspired by Anita Arjundas, CEO – Real Estate Sector and MD, Mahindra Lifespace Developers because she has reached the highest post in a male dominated industry.
